Let me tell you a story . . .

There's not much to it.  As Wil Wheaton would say, I'm just a geek.

Education

I completed my undergraduate study at the University of Georgia.  I studied saxophone with Dr. Kenneth Fischer, and performed with the UGA Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Concert Band (as a bass clarinetist), Redcoat Marching Band, Jazz Band I, Jazz Band II, Philip Glass Ensemble, and the award-winning Revolution Saxophone Quartet.  I graduated in 2004 with the degree of Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Summa Cum Laude.

In the summer of 2010, I completed my Master of Music Education degree at VanderCook College of Music.  My research concerned how and when to introduce four-mallet performance to young percussionists.  While completing my Master's I studied marimba and drumset with Kevin Lepper.  I also performed as both a percussionist and saxophonist with the Graduate Wind Ensemble.

Career

I teach middle school students how to perform wind and percussion instruments.  I have served as Director of Bands and Choir at Montgomery County Middle / High School in Mount Vernon, GA, Co-Director of Bands at Richards Middle School in Lawrenceville, GA, and Assistant Director of Bands at Pinckneyville Middle School in Norcross, GA.  Currently, I serve as Director of Bands at Summerour Middle School in Norcross, GA.  I'm in my seventh year of teaching and second at Summerour. In addition to classroom teaching, I served two years as a Percussion Coordinator for the GMEA Middle School All-State Band.  I'm currently serving as the coordinator for the annual GMEA District 13 Honor Band Clinic.

Other Endeavors / Hobbies

I perform both as a saxophonist and percussionist.  I'm the principal percussionist for the Peachtree Symphonic Winds.  I enjoy web building and podcasting.  You can find podcast recordings on the site.  I also enjoy writing an composing from time to time.
