Welcome to the first (to my knowledge) fansite on the net dedicated to Oakland Athletics Relief Pitcher, Number 58, Justin Duchscherer. You'll find some photos, links to articles, and other interesting stuff, as I can acquire it, about the Duke. I'm always welcoming links and image media pertaining to Duchscherer. I live in Georgia; thus, it's hard for me to acquire a huge amount of info on the A's and Duke. If you'd like to contribute to this site, E-mail me at sitemaster@eddiejennings.net, and please provide some kind of handle for yourself, so I can give you credit for what you submit. Enjoy the site! This site is built for Mozilla Firefox.

Quick Site News:

June 30, 2006

You'd think I had forgotten all about Justin and the A's. Well, I haven't. The updates will be coming far more frequently, and I have several picture submissions I need to add to the site. The goal for the next couple of days is to get all stats entered, and over the next week get the pictures in. Thanks to those who continue to come and support the site.

September 24, 2005

Hopefully, maybe I'll have a computer on Tuesday of this next week. It's pained me greatly to not be able to support Justin or the A's for the past month and a half. Guys, we loyal in Georgia are pulling for you. As one of the great radio announcers in Athens, GA has said "I know I'm asking a lot of you guys, but hunker it down one more time!" Keep pitching and hitting well. The West is not beyond our reach. We will make it. I'm wearing my Duchscherer jersey as I type this. On Tuesday, I'll have mlb.tv and mlb radio again! Go A's! Your faithful are about to make contact!

August 13, 2005

No, I haven't abandonded the Duke or have forgotten about the A's. I'm the new band and chorus director at Montgomery County High School / Middle School (Mt. Vernon, GA) and all of my time has disappeared. I'm learning a tremendous amount about teach and am having some good days with the gig, but it has pulled me away from this site and my main blog site. Either tomorrow or next weekend, I'll get this site up to date with all statistics and articles I can dig up.

July 10, 2005

Update done.

July 8, 2005

Site updates coming tomorrow. If any of you who read this site are teachers, know that I'm a first-year band director preparing for marching band camp. My free time is nil :P.

July 4, 2005

Happy birthday, my beloved United States of America!!! Some quick Duke news: I've posted an article from the A's main site. I'll be updating the stats of his last outing sometime later today (it's early here on the East Coast, 12:27 AM). Also, I was given permission to post several Spring Training pics, and my own pics from Atlanta are on the way. Everyone be safe and enjoy this ever-important holiday!

July 3, 2005

Hopefully, I'll find an article soon, but Justin has been picked by Terry Francona to the 2005 AL All-Star Team!! Way to go, Duke!

June 30, 2005

I can't say anything about no runs streak, but I think you'll like the latest streak of innings. :) Another Unk.Bill pic has been uploaded--when I get a chance to go by Eckerd, you'll see my pictures from Atlanta. Being a band director is taking all of my time. The last two outings by Justin have been lights out pretty much. As much as I hated to see it, his reaction to his error the other night was hilarious. I could feel the anger :P. Dark Side of the Force for a moment? ;)

June 26, 2005

Justin's still doing quite well as a closer; though, his time is limited for Street is recovering. I'm sure he'll enjoy being an anchor/setup/middle relief man again. Four pictures have been uploaded. My own pictures form the Atlanta series are hopefully being put on a CD tomorrow.

June 22, 2005

Update: Here is a more specific link. You may get a message saying you'll have to launch an external application (Windows Media Player, for example) to view this file, and that it may be a security exploit. Worry not about the message. To my knowledge, this MLB.com stream is fine, your browser is just looking out for you, for if you weren't expecting something to be streaming audio, then there may be a problem.

There is a great interview with Justin on the A's site. I'll try to find a more specific link to the media.

June 21, 2005

Justin with another shutdown tonight. There was a great article posted on the A's site about his new closer role, it's linked here, and has been added to the articles page.

June 19, 2005

Man, I go out of town for one day, and Justin earns his first two career saves. I'm happy he was able to step-up when the pen needed him--not like this is new to him. If you recall he was our anchor last year. I have developed the pictures from the series against Atlanta, and they'll be uploaded soon.

If any of you subscribe to mlb.tv, at the end of Saturday's game, FSN interviews Justin about picking up his first career save.

Also, happy Father's Day to my father, and to all of the baseball dads (of which Duke is one, as well as Joe Nathan, and others).

June 15, 2005

I'm now in my new townhouse, and once again have broadband. I purchased the mlb.tv for this month (my cable company doesn't have MLB Extra Innings), turn it on, and lo and behold, The Duke is on the mound. By the way, if you can't get mlb extra innings and have broadband, I highly recommend this. It hasn't screwed up for me, but from what I saw tonight, it was well worth my $14.95.

Changes are happening to the site soon. I'm going to change how I do the guestbook. My little script I found on the net is being spammed like crazy, and I frankly don't have the patience to remove it one piece at a time. Stupid spammers.

June 12, 2005

What a way to have and end a weekend! The A's have a triumphant victory to take the series against the Braves.

The added bonus of the day was Justin being called out of the bullpen in the 6th inning. I lept up in my seat and began yelling. Unfortunately I left my "Bring on the Duke" sign at home. I brought a different person to each game. Today was my mother, and we brought her "A and A's: A House Divided" sign. Even more of an added bonus. The Duke sat down the side with two Ks.

The added, added bonus. So about 20 of us were waiting outside the tunnel of Turner Field. The A's start to trickle out to get on their buses to head to the hotel then head west. A few sat on the bus to relax. Nick Swisher was the first to come greet a few of the East Coast Loyals. A few minutes later, the Duke made his presence. He put his stuff down on the bus, then reappeared to greet his fans. All of us were happy to see him. The added, added, added bonus. Justin was kind enough to autograph a baseball for me. I took the opportunity to tell him he was my "favorite reliever."

It was such a treat to see the A's live, and to see some of the guys after today's game in standard attire. I wish the best to Justin and the rest of the team for the rest of the season and beyond. Know that we on the East Cost, either by radio, TV, or boxscore try our best to keep up, and support our A's 1000%.

Moment of hilarity: Huston Street. We had some people begging for Street to appear to autograph a couple of items. I was just happy to see him and make some eye and verbal communication with him before a couple of the games this series. It's hard to think I'm 23, felt like a kid again at the ballpark this weekend, and am two years older than our closer. :P Anyway, the buses began to pull out and the Street faction went nuts, going as far as beseeching his presence. The bus stopped, and Street hopped of. The second bus stopped, and Macha appeared.

Macha: STREET!

Huston: (paraphrased, my memory serves me poorly for this) I'm sorry, Macha. I'm on orders!

You'd be proud of me, I cheered at Macha. He and I don't always see eye to eye on how to run the A's, but I cheered at him anyway. Why not? He's our manager. Street then told this couple of fans he had to go, hopped back on the bus, and took off.

Yes, a great weekend indeed.

June 11, 2005

Another fun time was had today at Turner field. Duke saw the jersey and the poster. Unfortunately, that may have jinxed him a bit (forgive my narcissism to think I could jinx him). However, it was still a treat to see him come out of the pen (I was sitting right beside the bullpen) and see him take the mound and pitch. It was great to hear the bullpen phone and to hear the coach yell "Duke!." Tomorrow we'll take the series.

I uploaded an article about today's game. It has some good, positive quotes from Duke. I know the mother of Brian McCann, I need to have a talk with her about the HR :P.

June 10, 2005

MY GOD THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just can't believe how wonderful tonight's (despite I'm writing this after midnight on the 11th) game was. My father went to use the restroom, so I stood at a gate and looked out on the field to see Kielty, Zito, Chavez, and a couple of other guys out there doing warm-ups and such. It was unreal. I'm seeing the A's, my team, in the flesh. It was just a great feeling.

Duchscherer. He probably thinks I'm psycho. I yelled his name a couple of times, and he responded on the second. I gave him the "give-em-hell" arm and fist pump, like I do any time we have a good play or a good strikeout. He mimiced it. It was great. So, Duke, if you've made it to the site, yeah, I'm that guy :P.

It has been a long time since I've attended a baseball game, and I was thorougly exhalted. I love seeing the A's on TV, but this was an extra special treat. I can't wait for Saturday and Sunday.

June 2, 2005

Duke worried me a bit last night; however, some very nice Ks saved the day. I'll have to say, it's been a while since I've been on the edge-of-the-seat mode while watching a baseball game :P. I'm not going to mention anything about no-ER streaks, for every time I do, I tend to jinx him.

May 31, 2005

I'm sorry for such a lag in updates. I've been working my butt off trying to secure a job for the fall, and I've finally acquired something. Duke's been doing well, what I've been able to see. I saw the game last night and he was showing good command. I'm glad his back issue was taken care of for the time being.

There has been some guestbook spam. Unfortunately, I have very few ways of preventing it, so either (a) I'll close the guestbook or use another service (which I don't want) or (b) bare with it and I'll clean it out asap. I think option B is better for us all.

Big news! Next week, Oakland travels to Atlanta, and I get to see Duke and the rest of my beloved A's live for the first time ever! :) :) :)

May 8, 2005

I've been busy clinicing and substitute teaching this week; thus, a bit late. Duke was roughed up during his outings this week. However, his WHIP is still under 1.00 which is quite nice, and an ERA of 1.45 isn't too bad either. Just over a month until he and the A's head east.

May 2, 2005

Sorry for the tardiness of recent stats and such. I've been having phone issues. All should be resolved now, or until the next bolt of lightning hits my line.

May 1, 2005

I haven't been able to watch nor listen to the last two games >(. However, from box scores it looks like Duke is still owning :). And as I mentioned a few days ago, now he has 5 scoreless innings.

April 27, 2005

Sorry for being a little late on stats. I had to substitute teach today. Duke's anchoring us again :). Two wins in a row. ERA steadily falling. Wore my Duke jesery bowling tonight (Crazy 8's league) and came within two frames of a 300.

Negative note. Listened to the last part of the mlb.com radio again. Duke scared the crap out of me. Never like hearing "and Duchscherer hurt himself." And "and Duchscherer is in pain back behind the hill." I know he had a bad injury years ago on the Rangers, and from what it seems, he didn't injure himself too bad.

One more note. To Joe Crede: If someone was going to hit you, would they really do it with a curveball? I mean, come on! I throw a semi-knuckleball. If I really wanted to hurt someone, I'd definitely go with the wobbler. /sigh Even then! If you lean into a ball, you're going to be hit.

April 24, 2005

Unk.Bill has done it again. If you haven't checked the photos in a few days, he's provided us with a few more pictures.

April 23, 2005

Duke came in to stop the bleeding with today's game. In 1/3 of an inning, he allowed a run (unearned). He returned the next inning to be pretty much lights out with 2 Ks. The scoreless streak ended, however, he still hasn't given up an earned run in 4 1/3 innings.

April 21, 2005

Update: Three scoreless innings. I misread my gamelog. :P. It'll be five soon, though.

I wasn't able to see him pitch last night because of needing to get some sleep to teach the next day. Damn East Cost! :P. Another scorelessing inning and 3 Ks. He's up to five scoreless innings again! Also, I've added some new pictures. Thanks to Unk.Bill for the links.

April 18, 2005

I suck yet again. For some reason there wasn't a telecast of the A's today. So I chose to watch the Twins to try to see Joe Nathan. Well, of course, Duke pitched today, and I didn't have mlb.com radio on to hear the game. Such infidelity will not be repeated. :P (as much as I can prevent).

April 17, 2005

I slacked off this week. Stats have been updated. Also, a little anecdote: I've been sucking on MVP 2005, but the A's are now 1-6 with Duke getting the first win in extra innings against Toronto.

April 13, 2005

The no-earned run streak came to an end :(. Oh well, Duke still made some Jays look like Jokes with this lead curve ball :P. I'll update stats tomorrow (14th). Yes, I know the run was given up after midnight EST, but until I go to sleep, it's still the 13th ;).

April 10, 2005

Duke continues his no-earned run streak: 5 innings. MLB Radio made me worry, I swear they said he allowed an unearned run, but according to the box score he's still clean :P. Home opener is tomorrow, Go A's!

April 8, 2005

Despite some trouble in his second inning, Duke's ERA is unscathed as he posts 2 1/3 more innings of earned-run-less ball. The A's wasted many good opportunities to win the game (and possible give Duke a win). Better luck next time perhaps.

April 4, 2005

Duke pitching one scoreless inning in today's opener in Baltimore. Unfortunately, the A's couldn't convert on some 2-out 2-on opportunities.

April 1, 2005

I added a picture. I can't wait until the season starts. Good luck to Duke and the rest of the A's!

March 26, 2005

Duchscherer interview with Athletics Nation (interview date was September 20, 2004)

Blez: Do you like your role? Or would you rather be starting?

JD: I like both relieving and starting, so I honestly would do whatever the management thinks will help the team more. Either way I am pitching in the big leagues which is all that really matters.

March 20, 2005

As we're nearing the end of Spring Training, Duchscherer has shown some great pitching in each of his outings this spring. Including just under 8 consecutive innings of no-earned run ball. To make the index page a little less cluttered, updates to the site itself are being listed here. This page is mainly the Duke Blog with a few announcements about the site.

March 11, 2005

Duchscherer is mentioned in A's Ready with Revamped Bullpen article

February 9, 2005

Duke appears in an article, Around the Horn: Bullpen, on the A's site.

February 7, 2005

Duke is mentioned in the Oakland A's Mailbag.
